The Reverend Paul Dexter Martin
The Reverend Paul Dexter Martin is the 6th priest at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. A lifelong Episcopalian, he was involved in many aspects of the Church growing up. After graduating from Wabash College with dual majors in Religion and Music, he went to seminary at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and received his Master of Divinity. Upon graduating from Sewanee, he was ordained Deacon in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 11, 1975, but did his deacon’s year at Coventry Cathedral, Coventry, England. Father Martin was ordained priest at Coventry Cathedral on June 29, 1976.
After leaving Coventry Cathedral, Father Martin served a parish in the southern suburbs of London, England, St. Phillip’s, Norbury, which was part of the Diocese of Canterbury at that time. In 1980, Father Martin and his family moved to serve at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was a full-time youth minister. In 1990, he moved to be the Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Minden Louisiana, then at Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Lafayette Louisiana. Later in 1997, he moved to be the youth minister at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Shreveport. Father Martin became Rector of St. Paul’s in May of 2012.
His wife of over thirty-seven years, Christine Melloy Martin, is a trained missionary and registered nurse. Their three children are Seth, Silas, and Omega. Seth, his wife, Grey, and son, Hugh, live in Richmond, Virginia, where he is a professor of English at St. Catherine's Episcopal School. Silas, and his wife, Stacy, and daughter, Vera Christine, live in Austin, Texas, where he works for Drilling Info. Their daughter, Omega, lives in Bossier City, Louisiana, where she works for Bakers Hughes.
